Dicey Langston Statue Unveiling

On June 26, 2026, I had the privilege of attending the unveiling of the monument for my 4th Great Grandmother, Dicey Langston, Revolutionary War heroine. At the age of 15, she was a patriot spy who saved an entire settlement.

Her statue, created by artist, Nick Ring, is on Main Street in the center of the town of Traveler’s Rest, SC.

This event was also probably the largest family gathering of Dicey Langston Springfield and Thomas Springfield descendants to date.

I also signed copies of my novel about Dicey, “The Patriot Wore Petticoats” at the Spring Place Inn (owned and operated by the Traveler’s Rest Historical Society).

A big thank you to Mayor Brandi Amidon and her staff/team, Taffey Lowery and others from the DAR and the Traveler’s Rest Historical Society for all they did to make this a reality.

Artist, Nick Ring, said Dicey was a “force of nature”… and that is what he conveyed with this statue. I love how it turned out. My husband David and I went back later after everyone left so I could have some one-on-one time with Dicey. I felt like I was looking into my 4th great grandmother’s youthful eyes.
